We are so lucky to have two innovative leaders in our Oakville community, Daniel Ridsdale and Nabeel Rahman. Our Halton Youth Disability Advisory Council have the opportunity to use the Town’s swimming facilities and discover for ourselves how these facilities meet Oakville’s diverse needs. This conversation provided all the attendees at this meeting with learning in listening, reflecting and responding. It’s important to start the conversation. Address concerns and encourage participation. Listening to each member’s thoughts and feelings is important. Their voice matters. 1. Vote Taken: Unanimous agreement to write to the Town, Daniel and Nabeel and request a swim date for HYDAC. 2. Creating art projects for community – Bridging the gap a. This is to encourage a sense of belonging for all youth members who are artists and love all forms of art. a. Mary Rose will be meeting with a Town of Oakville rep to discuss the process for creating an Youth Art Council. Also to review what current organizations there currently exist in Halton to engage youth in the arts. b. Meeting is scheduled for Thursday October 10. Mary Rose will report back to HYDAC within a week. Before the close of the meeting the group always talks about positives and negative instances that they have noticed in their communities.
