HYDAC youth council were in top form yesterday, starting off the meeting with a quick recap and then straight into the agenda. Learning to stay on schedule is what our meetings are all about. We learn each session.
First up. A new meeting location at the Milton Library. This means more youth members fighting for their community, standing up for each other, while learning, changing, supporting each other. A great opportunity for new members to connect. Awareness was the next piece. Does being different cause you hardship? Do you feel that you belong in your community? Can you share any ideas that will help others overcome some of the pitfalls you have experience. Communication having open conversations. Bring YOU without fear of judgement and ridicule.
Fundraising. As many of you know HYDAC raises funds for charities like our libraries. Our new cause. For the Milton Library to offer a sensory box to community. The group voted on this and it was unanimous. YES. Sensory boxes are useful for all ABILITIES and much needed for all ages. Plus, this would mean that other libraries will offer sensory items if our community members need them. How amazing is that? Together the crew came up with lots of ideas on how to raise money for the sensory box . From creating items to sell, painting pictures, book marks, building projects, refurbishing household items, to running a lemonade stands. Lastly, the group found out that July meeting will have a special guest, MP. Pam Damoff. This amazing lady will be at HYDAC to share ideas and to answer our questions. “We are so excited,” Says Maddison. “We cannot wait to learn all about what she as a woman fights for. As well.. HYDAC will host a community forum on July 8th our members are inviting the community to join them for a conversation, an open discussion with youth living with disabilities and their thoughts on fitting in. Do you feel you belong ? If you are interested in joining this conversation, please contact us! Comments are closed.
